Many women experience heavy menstrual flow. Excessive bleeding can cause other symptoms like fatigue, severe camps, anemia and light-headedness. While there are various medications available to help relieve heavy menstrual bleeding, some vitamins and foods also can help return your bleeding to more normal levels.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays a role in maintaining healthy skin, tissue, mucus membranes, teeth, vision, reproduction and breastfeeding. A report published in the "South African Medical Journal" states vitamin A deficiency has been linked as a cause of menorrhagia, or heavy menstrual bleeding. Researchers found a statistically significant difference in the vitamin A levels of patients who suffered with menorrhagia and those who did not. The return of proper vitamin A status saw a return of normal bleeding in 92 percent of participants.

Vitamin K

Vitamin K is known as the blood clotting vitamin and is essential in making your blood clot. Low levels of vitamin K in your body can increase your risk of bleeding and bruising. Eating foods high in vitamin K during your period can increase your blood clotting properties and reduce your blood flow amount.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin that works as an anti-oxidant and protects the body from free radical damage to the cells, tissues and organs in your body. Vitamin E helps to keep the immune system strong and functioning properly. It helps your body to use vitamin K in the formation of red blood cells and clots. Vitamin E can treat the heavy menstrual bleeding and return bleeding amounts to normal limits.

Coriander Seeds

When your bleeding is particularly intense, you may try coriander seeds as a possible natural cure for relieving the excess bleeding. Take one teaspoon of freshly ground coriander seeds and boil it with one quart of water.

Banana Flower

Banana flower is a powerful remedy that is used for treating heavy menstrual flow. The flower that is found at the top of a cluster of bananas is edible and used for preparing a tasty vegetable dish in many Asian countries. Rich in naturally occurring progesterone, banana flower can be cooked and taken along with one cup of curd in order to increase the levels of progesterone in the body. This will immediately reduce heavy bleeding during menstruation.

Fuyan Pill

Excessive menstrual bleeding can sometimes be caused by endometriosis, adenomyosis and endometrial hyperplasia. In such cases, the bleeding can be improved only when the disease is cured. Patients can take a herbal medicine named fuyan pill to get a cure.
