PID which also known as pelvic inflammatory disease is an infection of a woman’s reproductive organs such as uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. PID can also be caused by some other infections that are not sexually transmitted although it is one of the most serious complications of a sexually transmitted disease. chlamydia and gonorrhea are common bacteria of pelvic inflammatory disease. Many women who only have this condition detected when they have trouble getting pregnant or when they develop chronic pelvic pain, they develop pelvic inflammatory disease either experience no signs or symptoms or don't seek treatment.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease Causes
When the disease-causing organisms travel from the cervix to the upper genital tract, PID occurs. About 90% of all cases of PID are caused by untreated gonorrhea and chlamydia. Abortion, childbirth, and pelvic procedures are included as other causes.

Possibilities that you are more likely to get PID:
Have an STD and do not get treated;
Have more than one sex partner;
Have a sex partner who has sex partners other than you;
Have had PID before;
Are age 25 or younger and sexually active;
Douche;
For birth control, use an intrauterine device (IUD)

.
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease Symptoms
Dull pain or tenderness in the stomach or lower abdominal area, or pain in the right upper abdomen
Abnormal vaginal discharge that has an unusual odor or is yellow or green in color
High fever or chills
Vomiting and nausea
Pain when having sex
Menstrual bleeding that is irregular
Difficult or painful urination

Only minor signs and symptoms can be caused by PID, or none at all. Commonly when the infection is due to chlamydia, PID has mild or no symptoms.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease Diagnosis
With pelvic inflammatory disease, if you have some symptoms that associated, one or some tests that mentioned following you should take:

Pelvic exam
During the pelvic exam, a cotton swab is used by your doctor to take samples from your vagina and cervix. To determine the organism that's causing the infection, the samples are sent to a lab for analysis. Another common performed pelvic exam is urine test.

Ultrasound
Images of your reproductive organs are created by sound waves which is used in this test. A clear image of the pelvic cavity can be showed by this test.

Endometrial biopsy
It is a procedure, for evaluation and testing, a small sample of tissue from the lining of the uterus (endometrium) is removed. During this procedure, a small piece of your uterine lining (endometrium) is removed by your doctor for testing.

Laparoscopy
To allow the doctor to examine the internal reproductive organs, there is a procedure during which a thin, lighted instrument (laparoscope) is inserted through a small cut in the lower abdomen. During this procedure, a thin, lighted instrument is inserted by your doctor through a small incision in your abdomen to view your pelvic organs.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease Treatment
PID can be treated since it is diagnosed early. However, treatment won’t undo any damage that has already happened to your reproductive system, more severe damage on organs can be avoided by treatments. Here are commonly used treatments of pelvic inflammatory disease:

Antibiotics
For mild pelvic inflammatory disease, antibiotic therapy is one of the most commonly used treatments. Your doctor may prescribe a combination of antibiotics due to the drug resistance of antibiotics to start taking right away. Your doctor may adjust the medications you're taking to better match what's causing the infection after receiving your lab test results. If the infection is severe or you cannot take antibiotics by mouth, medication intravenously (directly into a vein) can be used when you need to cure the pelvic inflammatory disease.

Surgery
To remove the abscesses when the pelvic inflammatory disease causes an abscess and antibiotics are no longer as effective, a surgery is often needed. This method is used to prevent them from rupturing and causing widespread infection throughout the pelvis and abdomen. Laparoscope (a thin, lighted instrument) is more often performed based on the condition.

Hysterectomy or oophorectomy
When the abscesses are formed on uterus or ovaries, hysterectomy or oophorectomy is common performed. For women whose menopause is years away, the two types of treatments are more suitable. But women maybe unable to give birth by taking this type of treatment.

Herbal medicine
To maintain the ability of giving birth, there is a conservative treatment called herbal medicine. What’s more, Fuyan Pill not only can solve the pelvic inflammatory disease for women, but also can reverse the damages that caused by the pelvic inflammatory disease.The most frequently used herbal medicines of adenomyosis is Fuyan pill.
