Is it normal for women experience painful menstrual period which is also known as dysmenorrhea? The answer would be yes when the pain is mild. It is common for women having soft painful period when it is releasable with over-the-counter pain medicine.

Why the mild painful menstrual period is normal for women and how does the pain happen? The cramps you feel as a result of dysmenorrhea are caused by uterine contractions (when your uterus tightens and relaxes, allowing blood to leave your uterus). The lining of your uterus releases special chemicals called "prostaglandins". These chemicals are released from the lining of the uterus and increase the strength of the contractions, especially during the first couple of days of a woman's menstrual cycle (when levels are high). High levels of prostaglandins may also cause nausea, diarrhea and lightheadedness.

Generally speaking, the painful menstrual period can be classified into two types which are primary type and secondary type. The primary type is the most common one that is experienced by 99% women. When the primary painful menstrual period comes, cramping pain in the lower abdomen or belly can start 1 to 2 days before the period begins and can last like 2 to 5 days. This type of menstrual pain is bearable and stoppable

The second type of menstrual pain is secondary pain. This type pain is always caused by conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, tubal conditions like tubal blockage, hydrosalpinx and so on. When one has secondary dysmenorrhea, the pain would be severe than the primary type and this type of pain is hard to be controlled or disappeared with pain killer. Excepting these, the pain that caused by conditions always starts 3 to 5 days before the period starts and last like 3 to fives even the period is over. What's more, the pain would get severe every time with the come of period, it is worse than the last time. Of course, the normal or common symptoms during their period such as nausea, vomiting, loose bowel movements/diarrhea, constipation, bloating in the belly area, headaches, and/or lightheadedness, all of which can be mild to severe, can also be felt by them.

Therefore, it is necessary for women to distinguish the difference between the primary pain and the secondary pain. If it is the primary one, there is no need to take treatment. heating pad is enough. If it is the secondary type, please receive proper and timely treatment such as Fuyan Pill or surgery or birth control pills and so on.
