What is Qi in TCM?

Definition of QI

In TCM, QI refers to a kind of basic energy building bodies and maintaining vital signs. They take the view that Qi is the source of the university and the Qi can be classified into two types. The first one is in diffuse and violent moved station, which is unable to be observed by eye directly, due to the continuous movement. The second type presents in condensed state. Therefore, this type is visible and touchable.

Form of QI

First, it comes from parents, which is also known as the congenital essence. This type of QI comes into being when we are in uterus. And the kidney is the key point. Second, the acquired QI gains from the foods you eat and the water you drink. The spleen and stomach is the factory of this type of QI.

The third one is Qing-QI which is obtained from breathing.

 

Application of QI

1.      The movement of QI is known as Qi movement in Traditional Chinese medicine.

2.      Qi has four movement patterns including descending, ascending, ingression and engression.

3.      The manifestation pattern of QI varies from organs to organs.

4.      Our body fills QI. When the QI in viscera, it is known as viscera Qi, when the Qi moves into blood vessels, it is called Ying- Wei Qi. When it arrives at main and collateral channels, it is Qi of meridians.

 

Functions of QI

1.      Trophism. Lots of nutrition needs to be transported by QI. If you have sluggish QI, you may be innutrition. 

2.      Defending function. In spite of the trophism of QI, QI can also help prevent the invasion of toxic materials or diseases. A strong immunity cannot live without sufficient QI.

3.      Pushing function. This functions means the Qi can push the blood circulation of our body, making the blood circulation promoted.

4.      Fixing function. This function enables QI to repair or rebuild the functions that destroyed and damaged of body.

5.      Warming-up function which means the Qi is the origin of body temperature. It works by arousing, pushing the functions of organs, promoting the metabolism.
