Varicocele and epididymitis are two different diseases that have similar symptoms, and people are easy to be confused about the two diseases. Therefore, in order to enable you to distinguish the symptoms and treat them accurately, next I will make a brief introduction to the difference between varicocele and epididymitis in three major aspects: causes, clinical symptoms, and treatment.

Varicocele and epididymitis are two common diseases of the urinary system. Patients with varicocele and epididymitis may have clinical symptoms such as testicular swelling, pain, fever, and chills. Therefore, many patients are not clear whether they got is varicocele or epididymitis.

Causes

Epididymitis is a common disease in young and middle-aged people. When the body resistance is low, pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus will take advantage to enter the vas deferens, causing retrograde invasion of the epididymis, resulting in epididymitis. Therefore, the disease often secondary to urethritis, prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis.

Generally, epididymitis patients will have induration, which mostly occurs in the head or tail of the epididymis, and it is more common in the tail. Acute epididymitis is mostly caused by urinary tract infection spreading along the vas deferens to the epididymis. Transurethral instrumentation, frequent catheterization, and indwelling catheter after prostatectomy are all factors causing epididymitis. Acute epididymitis can be converted to chronic epididymitis if not treated thoroughly.

Varicocele is a kind of vascular disease. It refers to abnormal dilation, elongation and tortuosity of the vine vein plexus in the spermatic cord, which can cause pain, discomfort and progressive testicular dysfunction.

It is one of the common causes of male infertility. Because of its related scrotal pain and discomfort, infertility and testicular atrophy, it has been widely concerned. Varicocele can be divided into the adult type and adolescent type according to age. According to the etiology, it can be divided into primary and secondary.

Symptoms

Patients with varicocele had no obvious clinical symptoms, a few patients may have clinical symptoms such as swelling of the scrotum, local swelling, and pain. The patient's condition will aggravate after overwork. In some cases, there will be redness, swelling burning pain, tenderness in the whole scrotum of patients with epididymitis, besides, they will also have burning urination.

The treatment of varicocele and epididymitis is also different. Surgical treatment is the main treatment for varicocele. At present, surgical treatment includes high ligation of an internal spermatic vein of inguinal duct, laparoscopic operation, etc.

However, epididymitis usually causes less damage to patients than varicocele. Patients with epididymitis only need to take appropriate antibiotics to alleviate acute pain. In addition to the application of effective broad-spectrum antibiotics, physical therapy such as local hot compress is also necessary. Local application of berberine or neomycin in epididymis can also be used.

Recurrent episodes of epididymitis originating from chronic prostatitis can be treated with natural medicine Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill after vasectomy. Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill is composed of plantain seed, Angelica sinensis, Radix Paeoniae Rubra, Houttuynia cordata, Forsythia suspensa, and other natural herbs. It has the broad-spectrum antimicrobial effect of chemical medicine and can effectively kill various bacteria, viruses, and pathogens.

In addition, it also has the functions of clearing away heat and detoxification, promoting diuresis and relieving stranguria. It can not only treat chronic epididymitis and chronic prostatitis effectively but also improve immunity and alleviate the symptoms. For patients with repeated epididymitis which is severe, Epididymectomy may also be considered.

Varicocele and epididymitis have similar symptoms, so we must learn to distinguish them. I believe you should have a basic understanding of two kinds of urinary system diseases. No matter what kind of disease it is, I also hope you should receive timely diagnosis and treatment when there is anything abnormal.
