Cervicitis is referred to the inflammation of the cervix, which occurs in the lower end of the uterus that opens into the vagina. Cervicitis is a common disease can be caused by a number of factors, including infections, chemical or physical irritation, and allergies. While the irritated or infected tissues in cervix may become red, swollen, and ooze mucus and pus, even bleed easily when touched.

Cervicitis Cause

Cervicitis can be generally divided into acute cervicitis and chronic cervicitis:

1.    Acute Cervicitis
(1)    Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI):Sexual contact can be a most frequent way to transmit microbial and infections. The sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis and genital herpes may lead to acute cervicitis in women.

(2)    Endogenous Infections: Some infections of cervicitis are related to the infection of bacterial vaginitis or genital mycoplasma as well as other pathogens.

2.    Chronic Cervicitis

Chronic cervicitis can be caused by acute cervicitis, or the persistent infection of pathogens, however, these pathogens can be similar to acute cervicitis.

(1)    Chronic Cervical Ectropion: The lesions are limited to the mucosa or submucosa tissues, the vaginal part of cervix manifests smooth, while the vaginal mouth outflows purulent secretions, and cervical mucous accompanies with hyperplasia and evagination, as well as the opening of the cervix manifests as red and congestion, even swelling.

(2)    Cervical Polyps: the long-term stimulation of chronic cervicitis can cause the hyperplasia of local mucous in cervix, and even cause evagination of cervical mouth.

(3)    Cervical Swelling: chronic cervicitis may cause repeat congestion and swelling in cervical tissues, and the hyperplasia of glands as well as stoma may also cause a different ranges of swelling.

Cervicitis Symptoms
1.    Acute Cervicitis
Most patients with acute cervicitis manifest no symptoms. And some patients can accompany with increased secretions, which present as mucopurulent, and the infected secretions may cause itching and burning sensation of vulva. Except that, the symptoms as vaginal bleeding between periods or after sex may also occur. Combined with urinary tract infection, the patient may appear the urinary symptoms as frequent or urgent or painful urination. If the patients are diagnosed with Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection, or suffering from skeins gland or Bartholin's gland, the symptoms can be seen as the mouth of urinary tract or vagina becoming red, congested, swelling or a large number of purulent secretions.

2.    Chronic Cervicitis
In most cases, there are no symptoms in chronic cervicitis. However, some patients may appear the symptoms as increased secretions, with yellow color or purulence. When after sex or in the menstrual bleeding period, cervicitis patients may sometimes feel itching or discomfort in external vagina due to the irritation of secretions. According to the gynecological examination, erosion can be found in uterus, or yellowish secretions may cover or overflow from cervical orifice, or it can manifest as cervical polyps or cervical swelling.

Cervical Diagnosis

If the patient is suspected with cervicitis, the doctor may choose pelvic exams, or analysis vaginal fluids to make clear the condition.
What’s more, the doctors may also ask the question about their sexual history, in order to know:
1. Whether or not you've had sex without a condom

2. The number of partners you've had in the last 60 days

3. The kind of contraception you used

Cervicitis Treatment
If the cervicitis is not caused by a sexually transmitted infection, maybe it’s not necessary to take a treatment.

If an infection is suspected, it’s essential to eliminate the infection and prevent it spreading to other organs as causing complications as fallopian tube diseases or PID. The common treatment may include:

1.    Antibiotic drugs for eliminating bacterial infection such as gonorrhea or chlamydia.

2.    Herbal medicine like Fuyan Pill. This pill shares the same functions as antibiotics, which can eliminate bacterial infection by radically killing pathogens. In addition, it can also promote blood circulation to remove blood stasis, which contributes to eliminate inflammation and swelling tissues in cervix. And it’s a natural herb with no side effects.

3.    An antiviral medication can be used for a viral infection like genital herpes. Due to genital herpes is a chronic condition and may be passed on to your partner at any time, antiviral medication cannot cure herpes radically.

Except that, doctor suggests that it’s essential to abstain from sexual intercourse until a radical treatment.
