If the progressive motility ratio of sperm less than 50%, it is called asthenospermia. As you may know that the motility ability of sperm affects the reproductive ability of human directly. Only progressive mobility sperm can fertilize with egg. Therefore, asthenospermia is a reason of infertility in men.

Timely treatment on this condition helps increasing the pregnancy rate in women. Although antibiotics and Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill are frequently applied, treatment should be chosen based on causes.

1.      infection

Infection from epididymis, seminiferous duct, seminal vesicle or prostate gland can impact the motility of sperm from multiple aspects. chlamydia can stick to the head or tail of sperm, increasing the resistance when moving forward. Moreover, chlamydia can also damage the structure of sperm, affecting the fertilization ability. E.coli can reduce the speed of sperm. Microorganism can poison the sperm. This type of asthenospermia is curable by diuretic and anti-inflammatory pill.

2.      Abnormal sperm liquefaction

Incomplete liquefaction of semen is the second major reason of asthenospermia. The net made of fibrous protein, which is noticeable, restricts the movement space of sperm. Thereby, the abnormal sperm liquefaction can lead to asthenospermia.

3.      immune factors

AsAb can affect the fertility ability of sperm from varies aspects, including the motility ability, penetration ability and so on. a shaking phenomenon on sperm which is observed can limit the forward movement of sperm.

4.      endocrine factor

Not only can the maturity and production be affected by endocrine factor, the motility ability can also be affect. When E2 level in serum increase, the motility reduces. The high testosterone level can also slow down the movement of sperm.

5.      syndrome

A syndrome found in the early time can influence the movement of sperm too. What’s more, chronic respiratory disease can be resulted too.

6.      chromosome abnormality

Chromosome abnormality not only can reduce the numbers of sperm, but also can reduce the survival rate and motility rate of sperm.

7.      varicocele

Infertility can be caused by varicocele from multiple methods. This condition can affect both the reproduce of sperm and the motility of sperm, because a sluggish blood circulation of this organ cannot provide enough nutrition to sperm.

8.      Other factors

Lack of microelement such as Zn, Mg, or Cu can affect the motility of sperm. Drinking or smoking and taking some medicines can affect the motility too. What’s more, the reduced enzyme activity, the malnutrition of vitamins and the radial or high temperature working environment all can contributes to asthenospermia.
