What is endometriosis?

It is disease that the endometrium grows out of uterus. Although it isn’t a life threatening disease, its tissues has strong ability to transmit.

Is it a common disease to women?
Actually, it is a common disease. Recently, the morbidity rate of this disease is increasing, around 3%-10% reproductive women have endometriosis. On the contrary, in infertility women, around 25%-35% women have this disease. 20%-90% women with chronic pelvic pain and 40%-60% women with painful menses have this disease. Endometriosis only can be found in reproductive women around the age of 25-45. When women enter menopause or have their ovaries removed, the ectopic endometrium tissues shrink and be absorbed. Therefore, pregnancy or using pills to control the function of ovaries can stop the development of this disease.

Who are easy to affect endometriosis?
Women with abnormal menses have high morbidity rate. Those women whose menses begins before the age of 14 or the menses period is less than 27 days can affect this disease easily.

Women who use birth control pills hardly have endometriosis but those women who use IUD are easily to affect endometriosis.

Pregnancy can make the ectopic endometrium tissues shrink, so it is good for women, but infertility has no such function, so it is a dangerous factor for endometriosis. In addition the above mentioned two factors, miscarriage and pollution of environment also can cause the happening of endometriosis.
