How is BV diagnosed?

Bacterial vaginosis is an overgrowth of bacteria that are normally in the vagina. Researchers do not completely understand why it occurs. However, activities such as douching or having a new sexual partner or multiple sexual partners can put you at greater risk for bacterial vaginosis. While it's more common in women who are sexually active, it also occurs in women who are not sexually active. Doctors diagnose bacterial vaginosis by asking about the symptoms, doing a pelvic exam, and taking a sample of the vaginal discharge. The sample can be tested to find out if you have bacterial vaginosis.

What problems can BV cause?

Bacterial vaginosis usually does not cause other health problems. But in some cases it can lead to serious problems.

- If you have it when you are pregnant, it increases the risk of miscarriage, early (preterm) delivery, and uterine infection after pregnancy.

- If you have it when you have a pelvic procedure such as a C-section, abortion, or hysterectomy, you are more likely to get a pelvic infection.

- If you have it and you are exposed to a sexually transmitted infection (including HIV), you are more likely to catch the infection.

How is BV treated?

Getting treated with herbal medicine can help solve these problems.Doctors usually prescribe an antibiotic to treat bacterial vaginosis. They come as pills you swallow or as a cream or capsules (called ovules) that you put in your vagina. But many patients find that BV recurs before long.A recurrent BV occurs when a woman has four or more infections in one year that are not related to antibiotic use. Recurrent yeast infections may be related to an underlying medical condition and may require more aggressive treatment. So an approriate treatment is very important. The Chinese herbal medicine - Fuyan Pill has its strong power to kill bacterial thoroughly and prevent BV from recurring.
