salpingitis is an infection and inflammation in the fallopian tubes. Sometimes salpingitis refers to PID, even PID has no exact conception. In most of the time, PID refers to inflammation of the uterus, fallopian tubes, and/or ovaries as it progresses to scar formation with adhesions to nearby tissues and organs.

The infection usually has its origin in the vagina, and ascends to the fallopian tube from there. Because the infection can spread via the lymph vessels, infection in one fallopian tube usually leads to infection of the other.

Salpingitis is a frequently-occurring disease among women. Pathogen which lead to vagintis, cervicitis and endometritis can spread and infect upper organs, including the fallopian tubes. Artificual abortion, drug abortion, IUDs and other operation in pelvic cavity can also cause this the occurrence of this disease. Sometimes operation in abdominal cavity and appendicitis are the incentive too. Hyperemia, swell and secretion caused by the inflammation occur because of bad immunity or delayed treatment, and can cause blockage in the fallopian tubes. As a result, tubal blockage can be regarded as one pathological reaction of salpingitis. The disease is commonly found in infertility tests.
