Epididymitis Causes Necrospermia, Azoospermia and Infertility

Chronic epididymitis is always caused by long-term untreated acute epididymitis, and sometimes occur as a complication of chronic prostatitis. Epididymitis symptoms depend on the cause. They can include:

-A tender, swollen, red or warm scrotum
-Testicle pain and tenderness, usually on one side the pain may get worse when you have a bowel movement
-Painful urination or an urgent or frequent need to urinate
-Painful intercourse or ejaculation
-Chills and a fever
-A lump on the testicle
-Enlarged lymph nodes in the groin (inguinal nodes)
-Pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen or pelvic area
-Discharge from the penis
-Blood in the semen

necrospermia, azoospermia and infertility are three main sequela of epididymitis.

Why epididymitis causes necrospermia, azoospermia and infertility?

1 As epididymitis recurs, the impaired tissue would obstruct in the epididymal duct. So semen cannot go through it.

2 If the epididymis is infected, there would be a hypermia or edema, so the function of producing sperm decreases. As a result, the number of inactive and dead sperm increases.

3 As the epididymis is infected, some pathogen can directly harm the sperm in epididymal duct, such as E.Coli. These pathogen restrain the activity of sperm by gathering them together or absorb on the surface of sperm.

4 Some toxic material produced by pathogen are toxic to sperm and they would lead toazoospermia. Meanwhile, when white blood cells and giant cells are killing pathogen, it is possible for them to kill sperm as well.

5 As the existence of the inflammation, there are large amount of toxic material would be produced by your body, which do harm to the sperm as well. Some of them change the environment which sperm exist, and cause the death of sperm.
