Prostatitis in TCM

As a common disease in the urinary system, prostatitis is often seen in young and middle-aged people. According to modernmedical science, prostatitis is usually derived from invasion of the prostate by bacteria, viruses, mycoplasma, and chlamydia. It is also related to excess of sexual intercourse, over drinking of alcohol, perineum damage, and acute urethritis. TCM holds that prostatitis is mainly caused by failure of the kidney in controlling, urination due to kidney qi deficiency, or downward infusion of damp-heat.
Main points for diagnosis
The common symptoms of prostatitis are frequent micturition, urgency of micturition, dribbling urination, white secretion at the meatus urinarius accompanied by decreased sexual desire and emission. Usually, it can be differentiated as follows.
Syndrome of Downward Infusion of Damp-heat Frequent micturition, dark urine, urodynia, discomfort sensation in the lumbosacral region, perineum and the medial side of the thigh, yellowish and greasy tongue fur,floating and soft pulse.
Syndrome of Asthenic Kidney Qi Dribbling urination, aching pain in the lower back, bearing-down and distending sensation in the lower abdomen and perineum,thin and pale tongue fur, weak and thready pulse.
